Jenny Bascos began her professional dance career at age 21 in New York City specializing in Spanish Flamenco dance and performing and touring with various Flamenco companies throughout the U.S. including Andrea Del Conte Danza Espana, Pasion y Arte, Flamenco Latino, Maria Benitez Teatro Flamenco and with Grammy Award winning guitarist Hernan Romero. She later went on to perform in New York and Japan with the Metropolitan Opera in their productions of Carmen and La Traviata and was a participant in the prestigious Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival Cultural Arts Program.
In 2001, together with Gregory de Silva, Jenny co-founded and is currently the co-artistic director of M'Oro Flamenco, a modern, avant-garde, improvisational, New York-styled flamenco dance and live music theater company. Based on the unique quality of their work, M'Oro was the only flamenco company chosen to participate in the 2004 New York City Fringe Festival popularly known for promoting alternative art works and is currently a seasonal guest company featured at the Pregones theater in the Bronx.
Seeking to balance her life as a performer with her need for spiritual growth, Jenny became very active in the yoga community where she later became certified as a Jivamukti yoga instructor. An expressive method of yoga which combines a rigorous physical asana practice with a deep emphasis on spiritual teachings and meditations as a way to bring harmony and liberation to the body, mind and spirit.
In 2008 on the day of her 34th birthday, she discovered pole dance and from the beginning fell in love with the physical discipline it demanded and the artistic potential it carried. She has studied under Ms. Pole Dance World finalist Jenyne Butterfly, Soul Acrobats founder Alvin Tam, the first Ms. Pole Dance Australia winner, aerialist, and burlesque performer Jamilla Deville, Wendy Traskos, founder of the U.S. Pole Dance Federation at New York Pole Dance, and with first Exotic Dance School pioneer Fawnia Dietrich and her expert staff at Pole Fitness studio in Las Vegas, Nevada. She has performed go-go and pole at the Blue Martini and as a member of the Hell's Belle's dance troupe in the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. |
